Gambhir century takes India home
India has comfortably beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets. Sehwag and Gambhir made it easy for the middle order to chase down the total of 222 runs. Platform was set by Sehwag by scoring quick 59 runs of 32 balls and Gambhir, who was much slower than Sehwag to his fifty, stayed till the end to get a well-deserved hundred.
Bangladesh crawled in the early half of their innings. Praveen’s opening spell of 7-2-8-1, backed by a disciplined effort from the other Indian bowlers, ensured runs came at a premium. Raqibul brought up his fifty off 78 balls, and he upped the pace in the latter half of his innings as India’s bowlers failed to make inroads in the middle overs. Praveen’s returns in his last three overs fetched three times the runs off his first seven, but with Raqibul cramping up, Bangladesh didn’t make full use of the final few overs. Mahmudullah chipped in with 24, but Bangladesh lost their last four wickets for 26 as they were bowled out in 49.5 overs.
India will take on Pakistan on Saturday June 14, 2008. India looks favorite to win this series. It would be good contest between the sides, as India will try to continue its winning streak and Pakistan has to give answers to their Chief’s questions.
